This trek has been devised for those travelling briefly through Nepal who would like to get a greater sense of life in and around the Kathmandu Valley. In recent years Kathmandu valley has been faced with rapid urban development, but through the winding alleyways within the city, old traditions and inherent culture remain intact. This is not so much so if all your time is spent in and around the tourist hubs, as you make your way out of the crowded city streets, buildings start becoming sparser and fertile farming land opens up into National Parks and wildlife reserves.
Shivapurnam National Park is one such place, which is where our journey will begin. Trekking in Chisapani and Nargarkot is an ideal option for those who want to obtain a sense of Kathmandus ancient history where the people still maintain the oldest modes of life without care or concern for anything more than what they have. The day to day is simple and slow which tends to be a great reset from the dynamic intensity of daily city life in any city. The foothills in this area are populated with mostly Tamang people who are very friendly to all who come wandering through their land.
This area is where most of the drinking water comes from for the people of Kathmandus consumption at the beginning of the trek you will see the watershed where the freshwater is consolidated. Chisapani actually means cold water in Nepali and throughout the region there are many laughing brooks, winding streams, and steep waterfalls that add a great measure of beauty to the landscape. In the distance can be seen Everest resting upon the horizon with the more prominent features of Langtang, Dorjelakpa, and Gaurishnkar more closely at hand. Wildlife is abundant from monkeys and tigers to elephants and a whole range of many other species that curiously confront trekkers here every day. As a short and sweet but profound trek this is one of the best regions close to Kathmandu with a plethora of temples, villages and nature all sitting together in perfect harmony.
