Ganesh Himal is located 70km north of Kathmandu, nearly in the center of Nepal, extending all the way to the Tibetan border. Its name is derived from the Hindu deity Genesha, which is generally depicted as a seated elephant and is the God of good fortune. Some say the southern face of Ganesh IV actually resembles an elephants head with the descending ridge reminiscent of a giant trunk. The Peaks of Ganesh 1-4 rise above everything in sight like timeless, gigantic sentinels with diamond eyes, ever watchful; this range is part of the Great Himalayan Chain. The regions boundary to the east is Trisuli Gandaki valley separating Ganesh Himal from Langtang Himal and Buri Gandaki Valley to the west separating it from Sringi and Mansiri Himal.
The torrents of seasonal trekkers usually do not frequent this gem of a trail, but it is no less captivating than many other famous and more popular treks. Yangra (Ganesh1) at 7,422m is the highest mountain in the area with still 3 others above 7000m and over fifteen mountains above 6000m, the scenes are astounding beyond compare with many side options for unforgettable panoramas. Daily life here consists of farming, animal husbandry, praying, eating and living in harmony with the thousands of plants and animals that occupy the region. There are two very ancient and unique temples, Gorkhanath and Kali, which are both a must see for those trekking this route!
