The Langtang Gosaikunda and Helambhu trek winds through the most beautiful aspects of the region, including the Langtang Valley and the high mountain lake of Gosainkunda, whilst finishing conveniently at the north edge of Kathmandu Valley. This route boasts of easy access, breathtaking beauty and, best of all, no crowds!
Journeying through lush fields, great forests, rapid rivers and majestic valleys this trek is truly a rekindling of our connection with nature, inside and out. Against a backdrop of snowy peaks, the bamboo sways in the breeze, mingled with the scents of rhododendron, pine and juniper in what is considered to be a sacred land.
The remote upper region of Langtang lies on the border with Tibet. Known as the Valley of the Glaciers, the mountain culture of this serene pastureland is very much influenced by Tibetan Buddhist traditions. For those seeking insight into these traditions there is an air of openness and willingness to share amongst the local people; with every question you are sure to find an answer.
The trekking begins from Kathmandu with a short ride to the Tamang town of SyabruBesi. Here, at the confluence of two major rivers, we start our trekking excursion. The natural diversity of plant and wild life surrounds us as we travel along the river valley, finally widening out to reveal great snowy peaks reaching their pinnacles up to the heavens above the surrounding glaciers and meadows. We will then hike our way down the valley for a short respite before ascending through more scenic villages and landscape, soon to arrive at the holy Gosainkunda Lake with unforgettable panoramas of the Himalaya. From the lake we have another short climb to the high pass known as the Laurebina La (4609 m/15111 ft) before descending again to finally reach the outskirts of ancient Kathmandu.
